Christian Meditation

A small group meets at Lion Walk every Monday from 12.15 to 13.30 for a session of Christian Meditation.

Here is a brief description of what happens at these meetings:

The sessions commence with a small reading by any author of the reader’s choice

We sit comfortably with our backs straight and our eyes lightly closed. We sit as still as possible, breathing naturally, staying both relaxed and alert, and say our mantra –

MA – RA – NA – THA.-

– an Aramaic word meaning “Come Lord”. We listen to the word as we say it, giving it our full attention. We repeat it, gently and faithfully, for the whole time of the meditation.

This time is simply “resting” in our Lord’s presence. The one little word helps us to turn from distraction towards the silent mystery of God. A sacred word used repetitively to deepen stillness of mind and attention.
